New Windows Download

We have just finished a new bundle for windows. Alfresco 2.9 with Ingres 2006 R3 Beta.

This bundle is different than our prior Linux version. It has been designed to configure more than one Alfresco installation on a networked server. This setup allows the user to introduce the Alfresco HA architecture to Ingres with a simple plug-in to be dropped in over a standalone installation. With the plug-in enabled, the Alfresco component can serve as a 'Slave' and talk to the Ingres database of a 'Master' installation.

The purpose of having an Ingres installation under the 'Slave' allows the local installation of Ingres to be capable of performing the integrity management of the local Alfresco data and configuration files, while the 'Master' installation controls the overall HA environment.

Watch this space for the announcement of the HA plug-in code.

Please go to www.ingres.com/alfresco to download the bundle and be sure to let us know what you think!

OpenOffice.org Plugin for Alfresco released!

Looking for an easy way to integrate OpenOffice.org and Alfresco? This plugin is what you need! It offers exactly the same functionality and user experience as the Alfresco Plugin for MS Office.

The OpenOffice.org plugin is meant to be a cross-platform, one-to-one port of the Alfreco plugin for
MS Office.
It uses the same architecture (light-weight plugin with server-side webscripts for most functionality) and
features an identical user interface.

The plugin has been tested on Windows XP and Debian Etch Linux, in combination with OpenOffice.org 2.3.x or 2.4.0 and Alfresco 2.1.1 Enterprise.
It's available in German and English, more languages will follow.

New Swedish Translation project using TMX

The Swedish Translation project now uses a translation memory for managing the translations.
The tool of choice at this time is OmegaT (http://www.omegat.org). There are probably many others out there.

This gives some advantages:
- With subversion externals (the possibility to reference external source code repositories), the alfresco source messages files can be included directly as part of the project. Any svn update will automatically pick up the latest changes in the alfresco repository.
- You can also use externals to include any forge project that has a nice structure (separate message directory) if you so wish.
- OmegaT will pick up any new untranslated strings when starting. Just ctrl+u and you will see the next untranslated string. No need to diff properties files. And then maybe one keep up with the Alfresco developers speed
- OmegaT can use spell checking, so it becomes easier to spot typos.

There is a guide available at http://forge.alfresco.com/docman/view.p ... 0Guide.pdf
It includes a brief overview on how to set up a project from start if you wish to use the same method.

The new project can be found at http://forge.alfresco.com/projects/swedish. The reason for a new swedish forge project is the switch from cvs to svn (svn required for use of externals), not to have competing projects. Anyone who wish to help out is welcome.
